February can be tricky on the Manistee River in Michigan's Lower Upper Peninsula. Wintry conditions can dictate how and where you target steelhead. Northwest Wild Country Co-Host Duane Inglin flew from the Pacific Northwest to meet fellow Pautzke pro staffers Tim Roller of Ultimate Outfitters and Mark Chmura of Pier Pressure Charters for a day of fun fishing on the river to share techniques that are used in their respective regions. However, Mother Nature put a wrench in their party as 50 degree temperatures replaced the traditional below freezing readings and sent river levels much higher and colder than normal. Those events shut down the bite and forced the team to employ aggressive fishing practices to pave the road to success. And, on a day when most of the dozens of boats we ran across failed to land more than two fish - we boated nine by using Pautzke BorX O Fire cured roe in spawn sacks, BorX O' Fire cured roe and even Fire Cured roe.
